Jetzt haben wir uns entschieden über Ostern eine Woche nach Shanghai zu fliegen, damit sich R. ihre neue Heimat ab August schon mal ansehen kann und sie ein Gefühl von Shanghai bekommt. Sie war ja bisher noch nicht in China.

Ferner sind wir gerade dabei Themen wie Versicherungen, Umzug, etc. anzugehen.

Wie vielleicht auch Ihr, die Ihr damals/heute, frage auch ich mich, wer denn sonst noch so in absehbarer Zukunft beabsichtigt nach Shanghai zu ziehen. Es gibt viele Foren im Netz, über die man sich mit Gleichgesinnten austauschen kann. Allerdings fehlt einem die Visibilität welche anderen Deutsche oder Deutschsprachige gerade in der selben Situation sind wie ich.

Aus diesem Grund habe ich den Grundgedanken der einstigen "Shanghaifolks.de" Community wieder aufgegriffen und unter http://www.shanghaifolks.de eine neue Plattform erstellt, die die Lösung dieser Fragestellung als Ziel hat.

Die früher von einem Praktikanten des German Centres im Namen der "Shanghaifolks" wöchentlich an einen email Verteiler distribuierte Liste Deutscher in Shanghai ist nun über Shanghaifolks.de abrufbar.

Diese Liste lebt natürlich von der Bereitschaft Gleichgesinnter, die eigenen Rahmendaten online einzugeben (von wann bis wann in Shanghai). Die Privatsphäre ist zu jeder Zeit gegeben. Ihr könnt selbst entscheiden, ob Euer Name und e-mail Adresse in dieser Liste für Andere ersichtlich sein sollen. Falls Ihr das nicht wünscht, kann eine Kontaktaufnahme mit Euch nur über ein Webformular erfolgen. Ihr werdet dann per mail über die Nachricht informiert.

Ich würde mich freuen, wenn diese Seite Euren Zuspruch findet und wir alle, die neu in Shanghai sind, von der Visibilität über andere Deutschsprachige in der Stadt profitieren.

Diese Art der möglichen Kontaktaufnahme löst natürlich nicht die physisch stattfindenen Stammtische oder Foren wie schanghai.com ab. Ich bin aber sicher das dieser Service Jemanden zusätzlichen Nutzen stiften kann.

I often asked myself why I did not write in here in my mother tongue, German. Actually there is no reason for not doing so. As such, I now decided that I will switch the language of my weblog entries to German.

sorry for not having written earlier. In the meantime I got back from my short 9 days trip to Shanghai.

It's been a great trip. Yet another time things in this metropolis have changed again compared to my last visit back in 2005.

I will write more about my experience in due course and will by then have added pictures of this journey to my picture gallery...so stay tuned!

I plan to be in the office until 4 pm, get back home and pack my last stuff before I head-off to the airport to catch up with my friend Mike, who is going to be part of my short visit to Shanghai.

Realising that my trip back to Asia is not far away I start getting excited again.
What things will be different to my last visits? Will I still be passionate about being in Shanghai?

Anyone else currently in Shanghai? let me know what spots shouldn't be missed at all :-)

It's been long time since I last wrote into this weblog....mainly because I didn't have any new Shanghai stories to write about.

This in no over. Thanks to Lufthansa recent flight promotions, I was able to grap a cheap flight which will bring me back to Shanghai in about four months time for nine days.

I am looking forward to meet my old friends over there and to see how this metropolis has developed over the last 3 1/2 years.

I guess who will now be experiencing more weblog entries in relation to Shanghai again!!!

The frenchman Alain Robert known as "the" base climber on earth has just recently succeded in climbing up China's tallest scyscraper, Shanghai's Jinmao Tower.

Funny, the Jinmao tower used to be the office building I worked in during my stays in Shanghai in 2003 and 2005 and that it was Alain Robert, the person I coincidentally met during my holiday in Abu Dhabi in fall 2005 in the Hilton Hotel. At that time I didn't know him at all and to be honest I was laughing at him, when I saw him entering the hotel restaurant wearing funny cowboy boots. It was just a ridicolous impression.
